100 Black Members Rudy Metayer, Jeff Travillion, Joel Baker, and Karl Spencer partnered with Austin Public Health and other community members to promote Covid vaccinations.
The Texas Coalition of 100 Black Men Chapters (Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, West Texas) came together at the Capitol to support House Bill 88 (George Floyd Act) during the 87th Texas Legislative session. The Coalition spoke with legislators to find ways to support the bill at the Capitol and was acknowledged on the House floor. 100 members also held a reception and luncheon to support our initiatives as 100 chapters and spoke with members of the Black Caucus.
The 100 Black Men of Austin was the platinum sponsor for the Hampton/Tuskegee Golf Tournament. Members and partners participated in the golf tournament to support Hampton/Tuskegee Alumni initiatives. Some include scholarships to attend the HBCUs. 100 Member Douglas Boone was the chair of the alumni committee and we look forward to the continued partnership.
100 members and their families came together on a Sunday afternoon to put items of need in backpacks for the homeless. Through our partnership with Amazon and the generous donations from Amplify Austin, we were able to provide 60 backpacks that contained wipes, hand sanitizer, underwear, socks, sanitary items, water bottles, hand warmers, and shoes to the homeless. The backpacks were distributed under HWY 183 on Research Boulevard in North Austin.
The 100 Black Men of Austin, Inc. partnered with the PGA Tour and First Tee to support young men of color to learn the game of golf. The 100 sponsored young men to attend a 12 week curriculum of golf instruction with life skills and healthy habits.
