100 Black Men of Austin Partners with Huston-Tillotson’s IDEAL Summer Bridge Program

The 100 Black Men of Austin has been working behind the scenes the past few months for the upcoming academic year. We’re preparing for our voter education PSAs as well as supporting our Collegiate 100 at Huston-Tillotson University.

This past Saturday, we had the honor to work with our Collegiate 100 board members supporting incoming HT students at the IDEAL Summer Bridge program. We hosted 80 students at Harvey Pennick Golf course to educate students on the importance of starting off the school year on the right path by aiming for a 3.0 – 4.0 GPA, understanding the importance of networking, preparing their resumes and headshots, researching companies to prepare for internships, understanding financial freedom, and emphasizing all of the above starts now.

100 Black Men of Austin Provides Scholarships to Local Students Attending Hampton and Tuskegee Universities by Supporting Local Alumni

The Hampton-Tuskegee Alumni of Central Texas hosted its 3rd annual scholarship golf tournament at Star Ranch Golf Course in Round Rock, TX.  The golf tournament provides 20 scholarships per year to students attending Hampton or Tuskegee from the Austin, TX area.  The 100 Black Men of Austin has been the platinum sponsor of the event for the 3rd straight year!

100 Black Men of Austin Supports the Austin Public Library Kids Block Party

The Austin Public Library hosted its 3rd annual Kids Block Party at the central library downtown Austin.  The 100 Black Men supports this initiative by volunteering and providing resources.  This year, the 100 Black Men of Austin donated the books (Courtesy of Black Pearl Books) and Puzzles (Courtesy of Puzzle Huddle) to their literacy department.

100 Black Men of Austin Takes Students to Washington DC to learn about STEM and Aviation

 

Thanks to the generosity of The !00 Black Men of Greater Washington DC, the Austin chapter took 5 mentees to Washington DC to attend the Legacy Flight Academy.  120 students participated in different variations of STEM, learned about the Tuskegee Airmen, Redtail pilots, and sat in the cockpit and learned to fly a plane.  Students also had the privilege to see Black Excellence as all of the pilots were African American!

100 Black Men of Austin partners with WGC Dell Match Play to Host a Student Panel on Overcoming Adversity

WGC Dell Match Play, Dell Technologies, and the 100 Black Men of Austin partnered to host a panel during the final round of WGC Dell Match Play.  College students had the opportunity to hear 2 dynamic panelist (LaToya Collins-Jones and Chris Ogbonnaya) from Dell Technologies.  They shared their journey from college to Dell Technologies, overcoming adversity and making tough decisions.  One of those tough decisions was recognizing that “failure is success” in your life’s journey.  After the panel, students were able to network over lunch and enjoyed the final round and final year of WGC Dell Match Play in Austin, TX.
